Girl rescued from burial in sand dies

The 7-year-old girl who became trapped in a tunnel in the sand at Hamoa beach Saturday died yesterday at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children.The family of Zaney Ann Kalama-Baker of Hana today issued a statement thanking the public for its support and pledging the donation of her organs as a "gift of life."
The girl died at 12:05 p.m. yesterday. A tunnel that she and other children had dug collapsed on her.
Checks for her memorial fund, made payable to St. Mary's Catholic Church, can be mailed to P.O. Box 219, Hana, HI 96713.
