Missing Kona woman found

Police said a 54-year-old Kona woman who was reported missing was found yesterday, safe and in good health, in Honolulu.

Penelope Carolynn Medeiros of Captain Cook, the owner of Aloha Flowers of Essence, was reported missing by family members who had last seen her April 8 in South Kona.

Fire-training seminar set

Fire investigators will watch two specially built structures burn Thursday at Diamond Head Crater to assess how sprinkler systems help contain damage as part of a three-day training seminar that convenes tomorrow.

"Diamond Head Is Erupting" is aimed at showing investigators the dynamics of a structure fire and how to determine the origin and cause of a blaze.

The gathering is sponsored by the Hawai'i chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators and the Honolulu Fire Department.

For the demonstration, a fire sprinkler system has been installed in only one of the structures to enable observers to compare outcomes.
