Tomorrow Lei Day the University of Hawai'i-Manoa will unveil the first draft of its new strategic plan, with music, Hawaiian dance and free food from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the lawn fronting Bachman Hall.
The event, called Destiny Defined, will celebrate the hundreds of people who came together with ideas for a new vision for the Manoa campus and will feature a gallery displaying a draft of the plan.
"What this was really about was bringing people together to talk about and clarify their expectations, what their commitments are and what we share in common," said Karl Kim, UH-Manoa interim vice chancellor for academic affairs.
The event is open to the public, and people are encouraged to come, bring a blanket and enjoy lunch on the lawn. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served, and entertainment will be provided by Hawaiian studies professor Jon Osorio, who also is an entertainer.
An initial comment period from May 1 to 15 will follow the unveiling. But the public may continue to react over the summer, said Kim.
"We're getting it out so people can comment and react and say 'You missed something,' " he said.
Tomorrow's event is co-sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Hawai'i, Graduate Student Organization, UH Manoa Faculty Senate, UH Manoa Clerical Association, UH Manoa administration, Professional and Technical Bargaining Unit 8, and UH Manoa academic deans and directors.
