Shawn Ching new anchor at KITV news

Shawn Ching, weekend anchor at KITV, will join Paula Akana to co-anchor the ABC affiliate's weekday news at 6 and 10 p.m. beginning Aug. 12. He fills the vacancy left by the departure of Dan Cooke. Ching's weekend slot will be filled by Mahealani Richardson, starting in September.

Ching, 32, is a former KITV sports director who joined the station in 1995. He was born and raised in Honolulu and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in political science from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, where he played center on the football team. He is enrolled in the UH law school.
