Top 2 seeds fall at Kailua Men's Night Doubles

Top seeds Ryan Ideta and Erik Sandblom, and No. 2 seeds Stephan Pampulov and Jan Tribler were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Kailua Men's Night Doubles tennis tournament last night at the Kailua Racquet Club.

Unseeded Ikaika Jobe and Brad Lum-Tucker ousted Ideta and Sandblom, 7-5, 6-3, while No. 5 Jan Krejci and Wei-Yu Su beat Pampulov and Tribler, 6-3, 6-4.

In other matches, No. 4 Andrew Csordas and Chris Leong beat No. 6 David Lam and Chris Ma, 7-6 (2), 6-4, and No. 3 Brendon Curry and Erik Vervloet defeated No. 8 Michael Bruggeman and Erich Chen, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.


FOOTBALL

• UH football season tickets: University of Hawai'i football season tickets for UH students, faculty and staff go on sale Saturday.

The Stan Sheriff Center Box Office will be open special hours on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Student prices are $77 for both sidelines and north end zone. Faculty and staff prices are $104 for both. Guest prices for students, faculty and staff are $135 for sidelines and $117 for north end zone.

There is a $5 handling charge per order, and buyers may purchase one guest package per validate ID. There is a limit of four valid ID's per purchaser.

Premium seat donations are $50 for sections JJ, KK and LL, and $25 for HH and PP.

Beginning Aug. 5, the SSC Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the UH Campus Center is open Monday through Friday during normal business hours.


SURFING

• U.S. Open: Hawai'i surfers Kekoa Bacalso, Jordy Brough, Joel Centeio and Dustin Cuizon advanced to the semifinals of the junior division of the U.S. Open of Surfing yesterday at Huntington Beach, Calif.

Each of the four Hawai'i surfers advanced through two heats yesterday in 2- to 3-foot waves.

In the professional women's division, Anastasia Ashley of O'ahu's North Shore and Kristen Quizon of Wai'anae advanced to the second round.


RUNNING

• "Base Race" deadline: The mail entry deadline for the "Base Race" 5K and 10K races, sponsored by USO Hawai'i and Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club, is Aug. 5.

The races will be held at 7 a.m. Aug. 11 at Barbers Point-Kalaeloa Point. The fee is $18.

BASEBALL

• Babe Ruth (13): Hawai'i beat El Segundo (Calif.) twice yesterday to win the Babe Ruth (13) Regional Tournament at Napa, Calif.

In the first game, Channon "Pake" Coloma pitched a three-hitter as Hawai'i won, 6-1.

In the winner-take-all second game, Mike Kahelehoe singled in Aaron Santiago with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth in a 4-3 victory.

Hawai'i advances to the World Series at Abbeville, La., Aug. 10-17.

• Babe Ruth (13-15): Kasey Ko scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning as Hawai'i defeated Bullard (Calif.), 5-4, yesterday at the Babe Ruth (13-15) Regional Tournament in Fresno, Calif.

• CABA (12-younger): Hawai'i split a pair of games at the Continental Amateur Baseball Association (12-younger) World Series yesterday at Omaha, Neb.

Justin Yamamoto batted 3-for-4 with six RBIs as Hawai'i beat the Omaha Red Raiders, 15-13.

In the second game, the Oklahoma Indians routed Hawai'i, 10-2.


SOFTBALL

• Pearls roll: The Pearl City Pearls won two games against California teams, 8-1 and 8-0, at the Amateur Softball Association Western Nationals yesterday at Portland, Ore.
