Waialua scorched by brushfire

A brushfire behind Waialua Intermediate and High School yesterday scorched about 100 acres and ignited a pile of discarded tires, prompting firefighters to evacuate three homes affected by the smoke, a fire spokesman said. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 2:27 p.m., two hours after it was reported. Some 15 residents were allowed to return home about 3 p.m. See video of the brushfire, Real player required.
