Storytime for keiki at State Library

Children's Storytime for children of all ages takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday mornings at the Edna Allyn Room for Children of the State Library main branch at 478 S. King St.

The storytime will be every Saturday through Dec. 14, except for two holidays: Aug. 31 (Labor Day) and Nov. 9 (Veteran's Day).

No sign-up is needed.

Kahala Mall plans toddler, teen times

The Kahala Mall is holding Toddler Time from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the center stage area and for teens, Kickin' It @ Kahala Mall the third Friday of each month.

The teen event includes games, prizes and giveaways and entertainment from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 16.

For the tots, Thinker Toys will sponsor games, activities and playtime Wednesday. There will be story time with Read To Me International on Aug. 14, and Chris Da Clown's Balloon Olympics is set for Aug. 28.

Wear helmets right or they don't work

Fewer than one in six kids who bike, roller-skate, skateboard or ride scooters wore a safety helmet, researchers reported recently. The study of 814 children in Texas found only 14 percent donned a safety helmet, and one in four of those wore it incorrectly. Helmets should be worn flat atop your head, not tilted back at an angle.
