A 33-year-old Leeward man was in critical condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center after he was struck by a car and knocked over a bridge railing in Moanalua.
Police investigate an accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and thrown over a Moanalua Road guardrail.
The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. at Moanalua Road and Ala Aolani Street.
Police said a white Volvo driven by a 70-year-old Hawai'i Kai woman was traveling 'Aiea-bound on Moanalua Road when it crossed into a merge lane and struck a white Ford Taurus. The driver of the Taurus, a 40-year-old Waimanalo man, was making a right turn from Ala Aolani Street onto Moanalua Road.
After hitting the Taurus, the Volvo struck a curb, climbed a sidewalk and struck the pedestrian, vaulting him over the railing and onto an embankment.
Police were investigating whether speed was involved, but said alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Both drivers wore seat belts.
Pawn shop suspect charged
The accused robber of a Honolulu pawn shop who allegedly turned the shop owner's gun on him during his attempt to steal jewelry Friday has been charged with first-degree robbery and attempted murder.

According to police, Werner walked into A Fast Cash Pawn, 1694 Kalakaua Ave., at 1:10 p.m. and asked the owner to see rings in a jewelry case. When the owner said he would not open the case, Werner repeated the demand and punched the man with brass knuckles.
The victim told police he retrieved a revolver from beneath his counter and hit Werner on the head with it. During the struggle that continued outside the shop, Werner gained partial control of the revolver, with a finger on the trigger, and turned it until it faced the owner's chest.
A security guard helped take the gun from Werner and subdue him, police said, and he was arrested.
