Akaka was resting comfortably yesterday at Queen's, his office said.
Akaka's surgeon, Dr. Thomas Kane said Akaka's left knee should regain excellent function.
In December 2001, Akaka underwent successful knee-replacement surgery on his right knee.
Total knee replacement is a procedure in which the surfaces of an arthritic joint are surgically removed and replaced with prosthetic components designed to reduce pain and restore motion.
Akaka will return to Washington after Labor Day, Sept. 2.
