The car was found to be stolen, and Medeiros, who had been ordered out of the car, allegedly got back in and sped away, first striking the officer and causing right foot and leg injuries, said homicide Lt. Bill Kato.
Following a car and foot chase, Medeiros allegedly got into the officer's Dodge Durango SUV and drove it at the officer.
The officer fired two or three shots at the vehicle, Kato said, but Medeiros raced away in the car, blue lights flashing.
Kato said Medeiros is unemployed and an O'ahu resident but declined to release further information about his personal or prior criminal record.
He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140-160 pounds with a thin build. He has short black hair, brown eyes and a tattoo of a Playboy bunny on his upper left arm.
A backpack was retrieved from the stolen car Medeiros was driving when stopped, Kato said, but added that its contents haven't helped locate him.
Kato said Medeiros doesn't seem to have the kind of personal network locally that makes tracking him very easy.
"Quite honestly, we've been looking for him for two nights," Kato said. "His family is kind of difficult to track down, also."
