RAYMOND KAM immigrated with his family from China when he was 10. Although he would attain only a third-grade education, Kam had enough smarts to keep a mom-and-pop market flourishing in Kalihi Kai for more than 50 years. Kam, who founded Alicia's Market in 1949, died Tuesday in Honolulu. He was 88. See story.

When he struggled in Japan learning the intricacies of sumo, the language, customs or climate, Salevaa Atisanoe knew where to go for an uplifting word: his mother, TALAFAAIVA L.F. VAA ATISANOE. She died Monday at age 72. See story.

SIMON ALFRED "PICO" PAYNE, 76, the Honolulu entertainer who sang with the Ink Spots, the Platters and the Drifters, will be buried with services at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Hawai'i State Veterans Cemetery. Payne, who died July 26, was born in Baltimore. See story.

ANN LOUISE ALO, 66, of Waipahu, died July 28, 2002. Born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, Canada. Survived by husband, Revelation; daughters, Pamela, Lauri and Stephanie; grandson, Justin Alo-Ma'ae.
