Mililani falls in final of Bronco tournament

After handily beating Agura, Calif. earlier in the day, Mililani lost to the same team, 2-1, yesterday in the championship game of the West Zone Bronco (ages 11-12) Tournament at Whittier, Calif.

Waylen Sing Chow drove in a run in the third to give Mililani a 1-0 lead, but Agura scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to win it.

Agura, whose pitcher allowed two hits and struck out 12 in the title-clincher, advances to the Bronco World Series in Monterey, Calif.

Mililani pounded out 16 hits to beat Agura, 10-0, to force the winner-take-all final.

TJ Esclito allowed two hits in six innings and batted 3-5 with two RBIs in Mililani's victory. Sing Chow added three hits and three RBIs.


MORE YOUTH BASEBALL

• American Legion (18-under): Marc Inamasu drove in Troy Hanzawa with no outs in the first inning and Mid-Pacific went on to beat 'Aiea, 1-0, yesterday in the American Legion state championship game at Hans L'Orange Park.

After allowing three consecutive singles in the first inning, Mid-Pacific's Ryan Basco settled down and allowed one hit the rest of the game. He struck out four and walked one.

Inamasu was named the tournament MVP, 'Aiea's Jonathan Sakurai won the sportsmanship award, and Sabers' Keahi Kapana was the batting champion with a .600 average.

Mid-Pacific advances to the Region 8 Tournament in Las Vegas, Aug. 15-19.

• Babe Ruth (14): Colby Ho hit a three-run triple during a four-run fifth inning that propelled Hawai'i to a 5-3 victory over South Reno, Nev. at the Pacific Southwest Babe Ruth (age 14) Regional Tournament in Fallon, Nev.

Matt Solomona pitched 2¡ innings of scoreless relief for Hawai'i (3-0), which advances to today's championship game.

• RBI Juniors (13-15): Hilo defeated Naperville, Ill., 12-8, yesterday in an opening game of the RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Junior (ages 13-15) World Series in Chicago.

• Cooperstown (12-under): Travis Tanaka and Roger Kraemer hit homers as the Hawai'i Warriors of Manoa defeated the Renegades of Calif., 10-7, yesterday in the Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament (12-under) in New York.

Hawai'i scored four runs in the eighth inning to break a 6-all tie.

• Cal Ripken (9-10): Imua Hawai'i finished the Fresno Cal Ripken All-Star Classic with a 4-2 record and fourth place.

Jaymes Kawashima and Scott Sakaida were selected to the all-tournament team and Ryan Ige, Matthew Nishiyama and Michael Nehmad were selected to the all-defensive team.

Imua will host three goodwill teams from Hiroshima tomorrow through Monday at Ala Wai Elementary, Central O'ahu Regional Park and Koko Head District Park.


YOUTH SOFTBALL

• ASA (12-under): Brittney Akana pitched a five-hitter as Kaikamahine of Hawai'i defeated the Pennsylvania Rising Stars, 6-0, yesterday to remain unbeaten at the Amateur Softball Association (12-under) National Tournament in Sterling, Va.

Kylie Ahlo had two hits and two RBIs for Kaikamahine.


YOUTH BOXING

• Hawai'i boxers to nationals: Four Hawai'i boxers will compete in the Under-19 National Championships, Aug. 12-19, in Reno, Nev.

The Hawai'i boxers are: Kini Sofa Jr. (112 pounds) of Wai'anae Boxing Club, Glenn Miyose (125) of Westbrook Boxing Club, Peter Costa Jr. (147) of Waimanalo Boxing Club and Todd Park (147) of Pearlside Boxing Club.
