Critic's Choice: Stage

Mini-reviews of current stage productions, by Advertiser theater critic Joseph Rozmiarek

"Two Gentlemen of Verona": Plan a visit to Windward Community College campus to experience the remarkable new Paliki Theatre and soak up some summer Shakespeare. This production steps away from realism with an all-woman cast and white costumes. Repeats 8 p.m. Saturday, Paliku Theatre, Windward Community College. Tickets $15 general, $12 seniors and military, $8 students. 235-7433, 526-4400. Also playing is "Coriolanus," at 8 p.m. today and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"You Somebody": Lee Cataluna's gentle satire and Keola Beamer's playful music make for a warm evening based on a local family's attempts to become famous. Three former Miss Hawai'is deserve the congeniality prize. The playwright is an Advertiser columnist. Repeats 8 p.m. Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday; extended for three more shows, 8 p.m. Aug. 16-17, 4 p.m. Aug. 18, at Diamond Head Theatre. Tickets $10-$40. 733-0274. The Advertiser is a sponsor.
