Police seek help in search for suspect

Police homicide detectives are asking for the public's help in tracking down the man wanted in the attempted murder of a police officer Monday in Whitmore Village.

Ronald Lewis Medeiros, 35, is being sought for questioning after an incident that began at 6 p.m. when officers stopped him for a traffic violation at Whitmore Avenue near Uakaniko'o Street.

The car was found to be stolen, and Medeiros, who had been ordered out of the car, allegedly got back in and sped away, striking an officer and injuring the officer's right foot and leg, said homicide Lt. Bill Kato.

Following a chase by car and on foot, Medeiros allegedly got into the officer's Dodge Durango SUV and drove it at the officer. Police said the officer, a 34-year-old man with 11 years of service with the force, fired two or three shots at the vehicle, but Medeiros raced away in the car, blue lights flashing.

Kato said Medeiros is unemployed and an O'ahu resident, but declined to release further information. He is described as 5 feet 8, 140 to 160 pounds, with a thin build. He has short black hair, brown eyes and a tattoo of a Playboy bunny on his upper left arm..
