SHOW BIZ
Stars are shining at eateries around Hawai'i

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Editor

STAR WATCH: Roy's in Hawai'i Kai has been host to Danny Glover, in town last week for a talk before a National Medical Association gathering (about anemia, an illness his father faced), and — on a different night — Damon Wayans, here for a three-episode shoot of his ABC-TV series, "My Wife and Kids" ...

Terry Bradshaw, the Pittsburgh Steelers QB who led his mates to four Super Bowl victories (and a Hall of Fame laurel), had all the right moves when he dined with his family and friends at Keoki's Paradise on Kaua'i, even enjoying a football game on the satellite TV in the bar ...

It's Don Ho's birthday today, and one nice present is daughter Hoku's appearance this week (last night through this Thursday) with Daddy at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel ...

HERE 'N' THERE: Winston Tan brings his vast classical guitar repertoire to the staircase landing, where he performs from 5 to 8 p.m. daily except Sundays and Mondays, at Sergio's at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Rainbow Bazaar. Folks dining window-side on the second-floor site can hear him do everything from Broadway to opera tunes; strollers at the bazaar also can hear his sounds. The intent, clearly, is for him to lure diners to the Italian fare amid the award-winning Tuscany-like decor ...

Gina Jacobs, representing Costco, was the grand prize winner of the Gala Food Bank Headdress Ball Saturday night at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Her Carmen Miranda-inspired headdress was as tall as she was — a palm tree with its trunk with fruit. She had a double load because she is very hapai. Other winners: first, Leilani Pena, of the Hilton Waikoloa, with a stylist bonnet comprised of oversized apples and pears; second, Katrinka Gentili, with more fruit; and third, Michelle Guppy of Hualalai Development Corp., with a spewing volcano ...

Islander Dale Radomski will be doing second-unit work as director and stunt coordinator for a film called "Shadow Fist," collaborating with producer Richard Flemming ...

NAMES 'N' PLACES: The Commodores, Yvonne Elliman and The Makaha Sons will perform at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Waikiki Shell in a "Celebrate America — Celebrate Aloha Concert," a benefit presented by the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Honolulu ... All eyes will be on the end-title credit crawl, when Universal's "Blue Crush" opens here this Friday. In the rough print previewed for reporters with the cast and crew, local film types were somewhat alarmed that there was no "filmed in Hawai'i" tag. It's clear that most of the spectacular winter surf was shot here. And while the Virgin Records soundtrack carries one song written and performed by Sanoe Lake, the local lass co-starring, island acts were otherwise shut out. And the music video by Lenny Kravitz, on "If I Could Fall in Love," was filmed — shame! — in Florida ...

Now that the Hawai'i International Jazz Festival is history for this year, founder-planner Abe Weinstein had time for a leisurely lunch at Compadres ...

That necklace worn by Frankie Enos in The Actor's Group's "Anna" once belonged to the poet she portrays, Anna Akhmatova, as did a lacquer box in the set. They're on loan from the honorary Russian consul here ...
