A handful of people on Lana'i and O'ahu felt a 3.8 magnitude earthquake today. The earthquake occurred at 8:07 a.m., about 15 miles northwest of 'Ilio Point on Moloka'i, said David Burwell, an oceanographer at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The quake did not generate a tsunami, he said.
"It's a pretty rare event," Burwell said. "I think there was 3.0 in the same area in 1999, but we have few spots on the historical plot for that area."
