Detectives are pursuing an attempted murder investigation against a 39-year-old 'Ewa man who last night allegedly shot a man he suspected of stealing stereo equipment from his garage.

Police were called shortly after 7 p.m. to 91-1109 Hamana St. on a reported burglary case. When they arrived, they were told there was a gunshot and heard arguing.

They found the victim, 35, in the garage with a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck. The victim told police that the suspect believed he was stealing stereo equipment.

The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center. Detectives early today said that he was in serious condition, but hospital staff declined to update that report.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.

Moped rider injured in crash

A 30-year-old Honolulu man was listed in guarded condition at The Queen's Medical Center after an early morning accident in which he lost control of his moped and was thrown to the pavement on Kina'u Street.

Police said the man was headed southeast on Kina'u, about 40 feet east of the Alapa'i Street intersection, about 3:20 a.m. when his 1999 moped glanced off the concrete curb of a traffic island.

He skidded and then jumped the curb, pitching over the moped when it hit a dip in the asphalt, police said.

Alcohol and poor lighting may have been factors in the accident, police said, adding that the man was not wearing a helmet.

The 43-year-old man and his 40-year-old wife were taken to The Queen's Medical Center for treatment. Hospital staff declined to release information on their condition today.
