Veterans tribute on USS Missouri

In commemoration of the 57th anniversary of the end of World War II, veterans, dignitaries and visitors will celebrate onboard the USS Missouri from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Sept. 2.

The ceremony, "America Triumphant," will be a tribute to all World War II veterans.

The event will take place on the fantail of the battleship, and Adm. Walter F. Doran, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, will deliver the keynote address.

On Sept. 2, 1945, more than 2,000 sailors and Marines stationed aboard the USS Missouri were on the battleship's fantail when U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur received surrender documents from Japanese officials.

First Hawaiian Bank donated $25,000 to the Typhoon Chata'an Relief Fund of the American Red Cross to help the people on Guam recover from the July 5 storm that battered the island.

The bank previously announced that it would allow Guam customers to defer two months of payments for auto loans and other personal loans because of the hardships caused by Chata'an.
