Big Island boater still missing

Advertiser Staff

The search for a Big Island man missing since Wednesday in a Zodiac boat off the Big Island is expected to continue today.

Jason Henderson, 30, was reported overdue by his mother-in-law Wednesday night after he failed to return from a day-long fishing trip. Henderson left Mahukona Harbor that morning and was last seen by fishermen at 6 p.m.

A Coast Guard C-130 aircraft and Navy P-3C Orion searched near the island's northwest tip yesterday. More than 6,000 square miles have been covered since Thursday morning, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Lauren Smith. Smith said Henderson had a cell phone with him, but that it is not working.
