ADVERTISER BOOK CLUB
Three weeks left to read 'Makai' for The Advertiser Book Club

It's Aug. 18, and just three week's reading time remains for the Advertiser Book Club selection, "Makai" by Kathleen Tyau.

Mary Antonio, who grew up in Pearl City, wrote to say that the book already is a favorite of hers; she bought it so that her children and grandchildren would know what life was like in Hawai'i from the 1940s through the '70s.

Marilyn Morikawa picked up her copy at the Pukalani library and already has raced through it, and it brought back memories of her mom meeting her dad at a dance.

Read the whole text of their comments, check out our interviews with Kathleen Tyau in print and on the radio at the Web address below. And don't forget to send us your own comments on the book and your questions for Tyau.

If you haven't started reading yet, it's not too late. Books are in good supply at many bookstores.

Tonight's edition of the book club radio show, "The Sandwich Islands Literary Circle," deals with how to read more deeply and get more out of a book discussion.

Here's how to get involved in The Honolulu Advertiser Book Club:
