Don't tune out the 2002 election
Advertiser columnist Lee Cataluna observed in a column that at last Tuesday's airing of the Fox show "American Idol," some 68,000 Hawai'i viewers called in to cast votes for their favorite contestant.
If that many Islanders can muster the energy to vote for a person they probably don't know, then why the low voter turnout for candidates who can affect their lives?
In the 2000 election, just four out of every 10 Hawai'i residents old enough to vote showed up at the polls.
There are just six days left before Hawai'i's voter registration deadline for the primary election. Even if you're disillusioned with politics, no decision is a vote of indifference.
So please register, take the time to learn about the candidates and if they deserve it give them your vote.
