A memorial ceremony honoring those killed in last year's terrorist attacks will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

The religious ceremony is planned as part of the healing process, to honor those killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and aboard United Flight 93, said Gene Castagnetti, director of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Gov. Ben Cayetano, Mayor Jeremy Harris and Adm. Thomas B. Fargo, USN, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command, are scheduled to speak.

Jim Nabors will sing the National Anthem, Nina Rapozo will sing the the state song and scriptures will be read during the service.

A similar ceremony was held last year. This year, more than 2,000 people are expected to attend, including politicians and officials from the military, Honolulu fire and police departments and rescue workers.

Anyone interested in attending is urged to use public transportation because of a lack of parking at Punchbowl.
