Jack Masaniai, 22, was apprehended at about 9 p.m. at his mother's Pearl City home. Details of his capture were not available, but a sheriff's division spokesman said Masaniai was expected to be transferred to O'ahu Community Correctional Center after being processed last night.

Officers also arrested Masaniai's mother last night on outstanding warrants.

Earlier in the day, Honolulu police captured Milton Kapule near the Pearl Kai McDonald's restaurant. Kapule, 25, had escaped the minimum-security prison with Masaniai Aug. 13.

Members of the Pearl City police crime reduction unit received a tip that Kapule was seen in the Pearl Ridge area shortly before 11 a.m. When officers spotted Kapule near the McDonald's restaurant, he attempted to flee on foot.

Milton Kapule has 15 felony convictions.

Kapule was captured after a brief chase. He was taken to Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi for treatment of minor scratches and because police believed he was under the influence of drugs.

He was later transferred to the Halawa Correctional Facility.

Kapule has 15 felony convictions and was serving a sentence for robberies, burglaries, auto thefts and kidnappings. Masaniai was serving a sentence for felony assault and violating a protective order.

A third Waiawa inmate, Kristopher Kealoha, was arrested Saturday.

Also, an inmate who failed to return to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center was charged Monday with second-degree escape. Police had been searching for Gary Miyamoto, 46, since he did not return to the facility July 28.
