Youth corrections officers accused

The state is investigating allegations that two youth corrections officers sexually assaulted girls at the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility.

The information was turned over to the state Office of the Attorney General when they first came to light in May, said Bert Matsuoka, executive director of the state Office of Youth Services, which oversees the facility.

The original complaints targeted three officers, but investigators concluded that one case was unfounded, Matsuoka said.

The police sex crimes detail has been assisting with the investigation, said facility administrator Mel Ando.

Matsuoka said the two officers under investigation were reassigned to the boys' cottage at the facility as soon as the complaints were lodged.

Traffic accident leads to stabbing

Police last night were investigating an apparent case of road rage in which a man was stabbed during an argument after a traffic accident.

The man told security officers at Pali Momi Medical Center that he was involved in an accident near the hospital at about 9 p.m. He said he and an occupant of the other car got into an argument and he was stabbed by that person.

The victim got back into his car and drove himself to the hospital where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Officials say park fire was deliberate

A fire that broke out at Sheridan Neighborhood Park yesterday was maliciously set, officials said.

Police opened a second-degree criminal property damage investigation into the fire, reported at 9:10 a.m. in the men's and women's bathrooms at the park's recreation center, 833 Pi'ikoi St.

Damage was estimated at $20,000.
