My daughter must have been 4 or 5 . She and I were in the car, taking one of our frequent trips to Wahiawa to visit my parents.

She was in one of those "Why" modes, asking those unanswerable questions, "Why is the sky blue?" or "Why are there clouds?" I was in one of those modes of just nodding and answering, "I don't know," not really paying as much attention to her as I should have.

All of a sudden, she raised her voice, "DAD! Look at me when I'm talking to you!"
