Credit union supports 15
The Hawaii State Federal Credit Union has awarded $30,000 in scholarships to 15 people for 2002-2003:
Anna Marie Alfiler of Wai'anae, a 1985 Laupahoehoe High School graduate, who will continue her education at the University of Phoenix-Hawaii campus working toward a degree in business management.
Grace Chang of Honolulu, a 1990 Roosevelt High School graduate planning to attend the University of Hawai'i at Manoa this fall, pursuing a law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law.
Jose Dar Jr. of 'Ewa Beach, a 2002 graduate of Waipahu High School, planning to attend the University of Southern California, majoring in pre-medicine and minoring in psychology.
Monique Guillory of Irvine, Calif., a 1997 graduate of Kaiser High School, currently attending Irvine Valley College and majoring in criminal justice.
Monica Ishikawa of 'Aiea, a 1990 Mililani High School graduate who plans to attend the University of Oregon, majoring in counseling psychology.
Symphonie Kaai of Kapolei, a 1995 Nanakuli High School graduate planning to attend Hawaii Business College, majoring in medical office procedures.
Lynn Kajiyama of Kailua, a 2001 Kailua High School graduate planning to attend the University of Oregon in the fall, majoring in architecture or English.
Pepper Lee Soon of Honolulu, a 1991 graduate of Moanalua High School, who will attend Colorado State University this fall, pursuing her master's in occupational therapy.
Cherilyn McGowan of Honolulu, a 1994 graduate of Mililani High School who will attend the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, majoring in animal science.
Gary Nakamura of Honolulu, a 1993 graduate of Roosevelt High School, planning to attend Honolulu Community College this fall, majoring in secondary education and minoring in journalism or theater.
Chad Nishizuka of Kailua, a 2002 graduate of Kailua High School, who will attend the Illinois Institute of Technology this fall, majoring in pre-dentistry.
Malia Saavedra of Kane'ohe, a 2002 graduate of Castle High School who will attend the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in the fall, majoring in biology.
Shari Shimizu of Mililani, a 2000 graduate of Iolani School who will pursue a degree in pharmacy at the University of the Pacific this fall.
Christina Sing of Honolulu, a 2001 graduate of Hawaii Baptist Academy, who will attend Point Loma Nazarene University this fall, majoring in biochemistry and minoring in business. It is her second year of receiving this scholarship.
Dawn Yonamine of Honolulu, a 1999 La Pietra graduate who will continue at Chaminade University where she is pursuing a degree in elementary education with a minor in psychology.
The HSFCU Scholarship program was developed in 1996 to assist members and their dependents in making their educational endeavors a reality. An independent selection committee composed of five professionals in the business community chose this year's winners.
