Tyra Banks says 'yes' to NBA's Chris Webber

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Editor

SIGHT 'EMS: When supermodel Tyra Banks dined at Sarento's on the Beach in Kihei last week, enjoying a beachfront late-night dinner with Sacramento Kings' ace forward, Chris Webber, the couple took a brief stroll on the beach. With Tri-Star Restaurants' Ron Panzo in on the plans, Webber had asked the staff to place a bottle of Cristal on the couple's table upon their return. And when a dewy-eyed Banks returned from the beach, she sported an enormous sparkler on her third finger, left hand. ...

Gerald McRaney, who played "Major Dad" on the TV sitcom, lunched at the Pagoda Floating Restaurant the other day. ...

University of Hawai'i Warriors coach June Jones scheduled a double-header at Leilani's on the Beach earlier this month in Ka'anapali; he was recruiting some tasty dishes one day, returned on another for more scouting. ...

Actor Don Johnson had dinner with a party of six at Roy's in Hawai'i Kai last week — he gets around, doesn't he? — and he also played a round of golf with restaurateur Roy Yamaguchi at the Wai'alae Country Club. Yamaguchi is gearing up for the first anniversary of his Roy's in Baltimore on Sept. 23, and his partner and ex-v.p. from the flagship Hawai'i Kai restaurant, Randy Caparoso, will be on hand as "guest winemaker," inasmuch as Caparoso — now a California-based winemaker with his own label — has launched his cabernet and pinot noir, which continue to be added to wine lists in many top restaurants. ...

Eliot and Bonnie Tiegel have been soaking up the luxe accommodations at the Four Seasons Hualalai. She's an "Entertainment Tonight" producer, he an arts-and-culture writer. ...

Folks such as Teresa Bright, The Brothers Cazimero and Manu Boyd took the stage from the audience — for a mini-Makaha jam. Also announced: A Makaha Kalikimaka concert Dec. 22 at the Renaissance Ilikai Hotel, with Keali'i Reichel guest-starring. ...

OBeach Glass Bingo, the jewelry company owned by former New York actors Rex Nochengust and Gene Allen, who now call Honolulu home, has really taken off. Their creations are already at Nohea Gallery, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Contemporary Museum and the Mission Houses Museum, but Beach Glass Bingo now is at the Lido, an upscale shop at the Venetian in Las Vegas. ...

The Emporium Lounge in Pearl City, where Mel Cabang performs most Fridays and Paul Ogata on Saturdays, has had its share of comics in the audience — Andy Bumatai, Augie T., Frank B. Shaner and Dave Parker. Parker, a Radford grad who moved to Los Angeles to do stand-up, is home to write his memoirs, entitled "Growing Up Haole In Hawai'i." Ogata says the club is like the old Kojack's. "You never know who might poke their head in, and at $5, it's still the cheapest laugh in town." ...

RANDOM NOTES: Jordan Anthony Taclan, 9, a former student at Hawaiian Mission Academy, has signed an exclusive modeling contract with the esteemed Ford Agency in Los Angeles. He has moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in commercials and show biz, but he misses Hawai'i, particularly shave ice and camping on the North Shore. He's using Jordan Anthony as his professional name. ...
