Homicide investigators seek man for questioning

Honolulu police want to question a man in connection with last week's fatal shooting near Waipahu High School.

Erick Ledford is not considered a suspect in the Waipahu shooting, but police want to question him.
Erick Ledford, 38, is being sought for questioning in the murder of Hayward Julio, who was shot on Waipi'o Point Access Road next to the high school. Police say they do not consider Ledford a suspect in the Waipahu shooting.

Ledford is also wanted by HPD and the U.S. Marshals Service for a probation violation related to a previous counterfeiting case.

Ledford, a Caucasian, is 6 feet 1, weighs 175 pounds and has a medium build, with brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his left finger, chest and right hand. He goes by several names, including Eric Ruehle, Dale Knisley, Erick Rudledford, Rich Michaels and Eric Leoford.

Julio, 30, was shot several times at close range as he sat in his rental car at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police continue to search for the person who shot Julio and a woman who drove the getaway car, described as a gray Pontiac Grand Am. The car was last seen traveling east on Farrington Highway. Police received conflicting reports as to whether the shooter was a man or woman.

The shooting was the result of an argument between Julio and the two assailants, police said.

A witness said he saw the shooter arguing with Julio and leaning into Julio's car with a handgun before up to six shots were fired.

Julio was taken to St. Francis-West Medical Center and transferred to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died.
