"Mazie Hirono is a proven leader who has demonstrated that she can address and resolve the many tough issues facing our next governor and state," said executive director Christi Keliipio. "She has also been a strong advocate for health and social issues and understands the concerns of nursing and the complexities of the workplace."

The nurses' association represents Hawai'i's 8,000 registered nurses.

Ana Silva, head of the organization's political action committee, said the committee believes Hirono would be the most effective leader in championing health and nursing issues.

"We believe that Mazie Hirono has the background, experience and understanding of the issues to make Hawai'i a better place," she said.
