3 arrested after drugs, gun found

Three Waialua men were arrested early yesterday on suspicion of firearm and drug-related offenses after a traffic stop on California Avenue in Wahiawa.

The Honolulu Police Department's career criminal unit is investigating the case, which may be turned over to federal authorities because of the "dealer amount" of crystal methamphetamine involved. The men ages 20, 19 and 18 are in custody but have not been charged.

The men were in a truck with oversized tires that was stopped by a patrol officer on California Avenue on suspicion of a possible reconstruction violation. While the officer checked for a reconstruction permit, he observed two boxes of ammunition, a handgun and a large packet of what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine in the truck.

The career criminal unit is handling the investigation.

Waipahu man tells of kidnap

A 26-year-old Waipahu man told police he was kidnapped by three men who broke into his car early today in Pearl City. The man said he escaped by jumping from the car at Ho'omoana and Ho'ohai streets.

Police have classified the case as a second-degree robbery, kidnapping and auto theft investigation. There have been no arrests and the car has not been recovered.

The victim and a woman were in his car, which was in the Momilani School parking lot, from about 2:45 to 3 a.m. when they were confronted by the three men. The man said he was punched in the eye.

One of the assailants forced the woman out of the car before the three men drove off with the victim.
