Tonight's Must-See

• "Video Music Awards," 5 p.m., MTV. Nobody puts on an awards show like MTV. It brings energy, eccentricity and real star power. Tonight's performers range from the hot young stars (Shakira, Pink, Ja Rule) to the eternal power of Bruce Springsteen. They also include Eminem, Nas and P. Diddy; Jimmy Fallon hosts. Leading with six nominations are Eminem (for "Without Me"), Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott ("One Minute Man") and P.O.D. ("Alive").

• "The Object of My Affection" (1998), 7 p.m., ABC. Jennifer Aniston stars in this comedy-drama about the friendship between a gay man (Paul Rudd) and a heterosexual woman played by Aniston.
