No injuries were reported yesterday in a Wai'anae brushfire that required the attention of ten fire companies.

Firefighters battle Wai'anae blaze

Ten Honolulu Fire Department companies yesterday battled what firefighters described as a "significant" brushfire between Ala Akau and Ala Hema streets in Wai'anae.

Three tankers and the HFD helicopter were also called in to fight the fire, reported at 10:11 a.m. and declared under control at 11:27 a.m.

The fire burned three acres near an apartment complex, but no evacuations were ordered. No injuries were reported.


Drugs, gun lead to arrest of three men

Wahiawa police arrested three men early yesterday after a handgun, ammunition and crystal methamphetamine were found in their truck.

An officer pulled over the truck near 302 California Ave. and noticed two boxes of ammunition and a handgun on the front seat as the driver got out. A packet of crystal methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.

The men, ages 18, 19 and 20, were arrested for firearms and drug violations.


Police seeking Liliha bank robber

CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed the American Savings Bank Liliha branch last week.

The robber entered the branch at 1425 Liliha St. at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, passed a note to a teller that he was armed and walked out with an undisclosed amount of money.

The robber is described in his 30s to 40s, 5 feet 4, weighing 160 pounds with a medium build. He has black hair, brown or black eyes, a medium complexion, with a mustache and a goatee, and a scar above his left eye.

He wore a red baseball cap, sunglasses and long-sleeve T-shirt. No weapon was seen.
