Hawai'i's hopefuls way back

Advertiser Staff

Camie Hoshino led the Hawai'i hopefuls after yesterday's opening round of the LPGA's First Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Venice, Fla.

Bad weather Tuesday pushed the first round to yesterday morning. Hoshino, from Hilo, shot 36-40i76 and was tied for 72nd. The leader was Jimin Kang at 4-under 68. Christel Tomori (41-36i77), also from Hilo, was another shot back. Honolulu's Summerset Lovett had 42-38i80.

Hoshino and Tomori were both 7-over for the tournament, with three holes to play in the second round, when thunder and lightening forced officials to suspend play last night. The top 70 and ties make the cut.

Former Hawai'i resident Sally Soranaka shot 40-39i79.
