Motorist critically injured in Kailua

A 53-year-old motorist was critically injured in an early morning crash on Kailua Road near Hamakua Drive that forced the closure of two town-bound lanes for nearly three hours.

Police said a man driving toward Kailua lost control of his Volkswagen sedan, which skidded across the median to the opposite side. The car hit a guardrail and rolled over several times before landing on its roof in a grassy area. The driver, who suffered chest and rib injuries, had to be removed from the car by a Honolulu Fire Department company.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

The incident was reported at 4:23 a.m. Kailua Road was closed to traffic until 7:30 a.m.

'Ewa boy charged in sexual assault

Police yesterday charged a 17-year-old 'Ewa boy with multiple sexual-assault offenses stemming from an alleged attack on two teen-age girls earlier this year at a Seaview subdivision.

JD Babauta of a Pahu Street address was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree sex assault shortly after Family Court waived jurisdiction over him. He is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.

He is the second person charged in the case. Arcel Tubalado, 31, charged with first-degree sexual assault, is at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center awaiting trial. Third-degree sex assault charges are pending against a third man, 25.

The alleged incident occurred Feb. 20 and involved two girls, ages 13 and 14.
