Pedestrian still in critical condition

A 64-year-old pedestrian remained in critical condition today after he was hit by a truck near Sunset Beach yesterday morning.

The accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. along Kamehameha Highway about 140 feet north of Pupukea Road, police said.

A man driving a 1986 blue Toyota truck heading Kahuku-bound along the highway struck the pedestrian. The impact of the crash threw the pedestrian onto a 1999 Kia sedan.

The victim was flown to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. Neither of the drivers was hurt.

The pedestrian was dressed in all black clothing, police said. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident, according to traffic investigators.

Motorcycle crash victim at Queen's

A 16-year-old boy was listed in critical condition yesterday after he lost control of a motorcycle on Diamond Head Road and hit a tree, police said.

The motorcycle was westbound at 12:35 a.m. yesterday when the driver failed to make a turn along the roadway, losing control of his 1992 Honda Nighthawk and hitting the tree, police said.

He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center. Hospital officials would not disclose the boy's current condition because he is a minor.

The victim was not wearing a motorcycle helmet, said Sgt. John Agno of the police department's traffic division.

The accident occurred under clear skies on dry pavement with light traffic in the area.

Hatchet-wielding robber sought

Police are looking for a man who used a hatchet to rob two men at a McCully home early today.

Two men were watching television at a Kapi'olani Boulevard residence at 12:45 a.m. when they heard a knock at the front door, police said. A man wearing a blue-hooded jacket entered the home with a hatchet and demanded money and jewelry.

The man ran off with cash and other valuables, police said. He is described as in his late 30s, 5-foot-8 with a medium build, and clean-shaven.
