A 16-year-old boy was critically injured early yesterday when he lost control of a motorcycle on Diamond Head Road and hit a tree, the police department said.
The motorcycle was westbound at 12:35 a.m. when the driver failed to make a curve in the roadway, lost control of the 1992 Honda Nighthawk, traveled onto the shoulder and hit the tree.
He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition yesterday.
The victim was not wearing a motorcycle helmet, said Sgt. John Agno of the police department's traffic division.
The accident occurred under clear skies on dry pavement with light traffic in the area.
