Former University of Hawai'i football player Nate Jackson, who underwent successful heart surgery on Nov. 21, was released from The Queen's Medical Center Saturday, his mother said last night.

"We're hoping to go to the bowl game," said Margie Jackson. "That's his goal."

Hawai'i will play in the inaugural ConAgra Foods Hawai'i Bowl on Christmas Day. That same day Jackson will celebrate his 23rd birthday.

Doctors told Jackson he will need two months to recuperate. Jackson withdrew from school this semester because of the surgery, but hopes to enroll next semester, his mother said.

Doctors postponed Jackson's surgery twice last month for precautionary reasons before the operation. Jackson had been at Queen's since Oct. 24 after suffering complications from a viral infection.
