Tonight's Must-See

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. This erratic drama has found a strong story line in recent weeks. Abby (Maura Tierney) spent her childhood protecting her brother (Tom Everett Scott) from their manic-depressive mother (Sally Field). Now he's showing bipolar symptoms, and the Air Force is working on his discharge. Tonight, his mom meddles in his treatment at a psychiatric hospital.

"Scrubs," 7:30 p.m., NBC. Elliot (Sarah Chalke) was cut off financially by her dad when she avoided the specialty he suggested. Now she has to learn to live without money.

"Will & Grace," 8 p.m., NBC. Tonight, Jack hides from the Gay Mafia; Elton John appears briefly as one of its leaders.
