'Sound of Music' fills Diamond Head stage
Diamond Head Theatre puts a fresh spin on Rodgers and Hammerstein's enduring musical, "The Sound of Music," starting tonight.
With Greg Zane directing and choreographing, the show boasts a cast that's new to the DHT: Carla Waterfield as Maria, and Robert Frederick as Capt. Von Trapp; Teresa Bomberger as Mother Abbess; John Hunt as Max Detweiler; and Valerie Vedder as Elsa Schraeder.
The Von Trapp kids are Katherine Mills as Leisl; Samuel Roeca as Friedrich; Keely Schneider as Louisa; Jack Smart as Kurt; Kim Anderson as Brigitta; Katherine Clifton as Marta; and Madeline Sault as Gretl.
The score includes a cache of hummable hits, from the inspirational "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" to the Christmasy "My Favorite Things," from the soaring title song to the playful "Do-Re-Mi."
Anticipating sellouts, DHT has added a trio of post-Christmas performances at 8 p.m. Dec. 27 and 28 and 4 p.m. Dec. 29 and matinees at 3 p.m. Dec. 14 and 21.
The regular run includes shows at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 22. Tickets: $10-$40.
Reservations: 733-0274.
