"LUMA: Theatre of Light," an innovative theatrical experience with luminous appeal for youngsters and their parents, makes its Honolulu debut Dec. 19-22 at the Hawai'i Theatre. It is the creation of a single-monikered marvel, Marlin, who performed for many years in Las Vegas before settling on the Big Island in the late 1980s. There, while standing in front of a lava flow at Kilauea, "LUMA" was born. It took Marlin five years to develop the show with collaborators from the worlds of circus, theater and electric design, but the attraction since has found devotees all over the nation. Tickets: $18, $28, $36, $40 and $46.

His Maui Christmas concert, at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, is expected to sell out.
  • All in the 'ohana: When Ho'okena unveils its "Home for the Holidays III" Christmas concert tomorrow at Mamiya Theatre, look for next-generation performers. Horace Dudoit's kids (Kalei, violinist; Kaipo, pianist) and Chris Kamaka's daughter (Ihilinai) are among the "surprise" add-ons.
  • Focus on France: Seven movies featuring Catherine Deneuve will be screened in a French Film Festival Dec. 13-19 at The Art House at Restaurant Row. The films are "8 Women," "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg," "Belle de Jour," "The Young Girls of Rochefort," "Indochine," "Time Regained" and "East-West." A preview cocktail party takes place at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the nearby restaurant Meritage and includes the screening of "8 Women."
