THE LEFT LANE
Find that favorite lipstick color again

Advertiser staff and news services

It happens all the time. You find the perfect lipstick shade and then it's discontinued. But you can recapture that shade. The founders of 3C cosmetics, a New York firm that's getting lots of ink in the style and fashion magazines, will be at McQuaids Fine Living at Ward Warehouse to do complementary makeup applications and create custom blends of lipstick, eye shadow, concealer and blush.

If you want your faithful favorite duplicated, they can take it back to New York with them where their chemists will blend an exact duplicate. You can even have them match a swatch of a favorite garment to achieve perfectly matched cosmetics and clothing. Call 589-1900 for an appointment for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday or 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

TV show wants to play matchmaker

Islanders are among those being scouted for a new reality-based TV s how, "Married by America," which invites viewers to play matchmaker. Margaret Doversola, a Hawai'i casting agent, is among a network of talent scouts seeking cast members: three men, three women, business types, single (not divorced), childless, 21-39. Six finalists from around the country will be flown to Los Angeles for taping, along with family and friends who will meet the candidates, and help the audience better get to know the finalists to identify potential mates.

No word yet whether the show will be on network TV or cable, Doversola said. To apply: check the Web site, marriedbyamerica.com. Or call Doversola: 396-0818. Or the show's hotline: (800) 616-1427.

Sci Fi goes into orbit as aliens grab viewers

Ratings for the Sci Fi Channel's alien-related mega-miniseries "Taken," continuing at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday next week on the (repeats 9 p.m.), are out of this world. The first two-hour episode of the Steven Spielberg production averaged 6.1 million viewers Monday night, according to Nielsen Media Research. And though its average dropped to 4.8 million viewers the second night, the miniseries' two-night viewership alone was five times larger than Sci Fi's average prime-time audience.

Sci Fi general manager Bonnie Hammer hopes to lure other veteran filmmakers, such as Martin Scorsese ("Raging Bull") or Robert Zemeckis ("Forrest Gump"), to create long-form programming for Sci Fi. The network probably also will rebroadcast "Taken" next year.
