Pedestrian dies in Liliha accident
A 76-year-old man died yesterday morning after being struck by a Jeep as he crossed the street at the intersection of Liliha Street and Hanana Place.
The man was crossing Liliha at 7:10 a.m. when he was struck by a 1995 green Jeep Cherokee, police said. The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died.
The city Medical Examiner' Office has yet to release the man's name.
Two critical after Maui shooting
WAILUKU, Maui A woman shot in the face Wednesday night at her Honokowai condominium and the man suspected of shooting her remained in critical condition yesterday at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
The 44-year-old woman's condition had improved, but police were still waiting to interview her to find out what happened.
Police were called at 7:50 p.m. to investigate an abuse case at the Hale Royale and found the injured woman, who had managed to get help from a neighbor, said Capt. Gary Yabuta of the Criminal Investigation Division.
The 48-year-old man was later discovered in a pineapple field above Honokowai near the Kapalua-West Maui Airport with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest, Yabuta said.
Police seek help to find missing hiker
Honolulu Police's Missing Person Detail is asking the public's help in finding Evin Kip Hutchinson.
Hutchinson, 50, told his family that he was going hiking on Wednesday. He was last seen getting on a city bus at 5 a.m. that day fronting Times Supermarket at 45-934 Kamehameha Highway, police said.
Hutchinson frequents Windward trails and has also been known to hike at Tantalus.
He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt, black pants, white-and-blue athletic shoes and carrying a black-and-green backpack.

2 armed robberies reported on O'ahu
Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred Wednesday evening and yesterday morning.
The latest crimes bring to eight the number of armed robberies or attempted robberies on O'ahu since Sunday. Police said eight armed or attempted robberies in five days is unusually high, but don't believe the cases are all related.
At 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, a man walked into the Baskin-Robbins Store in the Waipahu Town Center with a gun and demanded money from store employees.
After taking the money, the man ran away, police said. No one was hurt, and no arrests have been made, police said.
Another incident occurred at 1 a.m. yesterday at a King Street bus stop near Pua Lane.
A man in his 20s and a woman believed to be his girlfriend were arguing at the Shell gas station near Pua Lane when the man walked up to two other men, ages 21 and 33, waiting at the bus stop.
The man showed a small-caliber handgun to the older victim and demanded his watch, police said. The gunman then threatened to shoot the younger man, police said.
The victims ran off, and the couple disappeared into the Mayor Wright Homes area, police said.
