Hawai'i briefs

Developer fined for violations

Stanford Carr Development, LLC, developer of The Peninsula at Hawaii Kai, has been cited and fined $40,000 for discharging muddy water into the Hawai'i Kai Marina on four separate occasions.

Since the state Department of Health issued the violations, Stanford Carr Development, LLC, has made efforts to rectify the problem, said Michael Tsuji, DOH enforcement branch superintendent.

The developer and the contractor, Goodfellow Brothers, have applied for the necessary permits and paid the penalty, Tsuji said.

"Since May they have been in compliance,"Tsuji said. "There have not been any complaints or reports from the public."

From October 2001 through April 2002 water quality health officials cited the 600-unit development on four separate occasions for storm water runoff and for not installing a pump to keep water from flowing into the marina.
