Chaminade basketball knocks off Lees McRae

Mike Donegan had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and made two free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining, lifting Chaminade over Lees McRae (N.C.), 71-69, last night at McCabe gym.

Leon Ballard added 20 points and Byron Sykes had a game-high six assists for Chaminade.

Jermaine Johnson scored 27 points and Tim Thompson added 14 for the Bobcats, who led 40-33 at halftime.

Lees McRae had 16 turnovers and Chaminade committed 10.

The Silverswords improved to 2-5. The Bobcats dropped to 0-4.

• UH-Hilo 84, Cal State-Stanislaus 79: Brady Hyde and Ryan Abrahams each scored 19 points, helping the host Vulcans turn back the Warriors last night at Afook-Chinen civic in Hilo.

Kyle Bartholomew added 11 points for UH-Hilo (4-2).

Jamal O'Quinn scored 21 points, Bernard McIntosh 17, Jeff Davenport 13 and Skyler Wilson 11 for the Warriors (1-2), who outrebounded the Vulcans, 37-36.

UH-Hilo shot 60 percent (20-of-33) in the first half to take a 47-44 lead at intermission.
