Nativity re-created at Faith Baptist

Faith Baptist Church in Kailua is present its "Christmas in Kailua," a special holiday event with a walk through the nativity scene that uses live animals.

The re-enactment of the birth of Jesus will take place every half-hour from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and 22 at the church, next to the YMCA on Kailua Road.

There will also be a choir singing Christmas carols, free punch and cookies, and a free family portrait.

Church ordains Samoan woman

Earlier this fall, the United Church of Christ ordained its first Samoan woman as a minister, the Rev. Jeannie Thompson.

Born in Pago Pago, American Samoa, Thompson moved with her family to Hawai'i when she was a baby. She studied English at the University of Hawai'i before completing her seminary training at the Pacific School of Religion.

She's now a minister at Baker Community Church in Baker, Mont.
