Armed robbery 11th in 8 days

Domino's Pizza in 'Ewa Beach was held up last night by a man armed with a handgun.

The robbery at 91-775 Papipi Road was reported at 6:20 p.m. A man entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded the cashier and manager to open the safe. When informed that the safe was time-locked and could not be opened, the man took cash from the register and fled.

It was the 11th armed robbery on O'ahu in the past eight days and the second since Friday's holdup of a Pawa'a-area jewelry store. A man, who displayed a handgun tucked in the waistband of his pants, and woman, who served as a lookout and driver of a getaway car, fled with $2,000 cash and $5,000 worth of gold jewelry from a store on Ke'eaumoku and Makaloa streets.

Police are "beating the bushes" for suspect information, said Maj. Darryl Perry of the Criminal Investigation Division.

"We're concerned about all robbery cases with the use or implied use of firearms," Perry said, "and we're asking the public to call 911 about any people they see who are acting suspicious."

Ship passenger located in Hilo

Big Island police today found the 40-year-old Kahuku woman passenger from the cruise ship Norwegian Wind, who was reported missing Friday.

Danie N. Haili was found at 8:30 a.m. in Hilo's Keaukaha area. She was not injured, police said.

Hit-run victim recuperating

The condition of a 22-year-old man who was critically injured when hit by a pickup truck early Saturday morning in Kailua has been upgraded to serious condition at The Queen's Medical Center.

The injured man may have been lying on the roadway when the 4:30 a.m. incident occurred on Kalaniana'ole Highway near Kanapu'u Drive, according to police.

The driver fled the scene on foot. Police have tentatively identified the driver but have not made an arrest. The vehicle was not stolen, police said.
