Bloch sets UH mark: University of Hawai'i's Cheyne Bloch set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke Sunday when he clocked 1 minute, 57.04 seconds to finish third at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.

Bloch, a junior from Wailuku, Maui, set the previous mark of 1:57.69 earlier this year.

Bloch's 200 breaststroke time and his 53.92 effort in the 100 breaststroke on Friday are NCAA Championships automatic qualifying times.

The two-time All-American helped the 24th-ranked Rainbows to a sixth-place finish with 292 points. Host Texas finished first in the 12-school field with 721 points.

Texas also topped the 13-school women's field with 856 points. UH placed 11th with 76.

Three UH swimmers recorded NCAA Championships consideration times: Tudor Ignat in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.73 for 10th place), Kurt Boehm in the 200 butterfly (1:47.91 for 11th place), and Yan Chen in the women's 200 butterfly (2:01.04 for 9th place). Yan's time also is the second-fastest in school history.

In 10-meter platform diving, Mike Gowdy placed fifth among seven divers with 411.40 points.
