Kane'ohe's Wilson earns PGA Tour card

Advertiser Staff and News Services

WILSON
Kane'ohe's Dean Wilson, who has played on the Japan Golf Tour the past two seasons, earned his PGA Tour card yesterday.

Wilson shot a 3-under-par 69 on a day when none of the top 24 players entering the final round broke 70 at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in La Quinta, Calif.

Wilson, who held a two-stroke lead midway through the grueling six-round tournament, finished at 12-under 420 and won $25,000.

The Castle High graduate began the day in a six-way tie for 25th place and finished in a six-way tie for 11th.

The top 35 players and ties earned exempt status on the PGA Tour next year. The next 50 received full status on the Nationwide Tour next year, a list that now includes Casey Martin.

Martin, who has a circulatory disorder in his right leg that requires him to ride a cart, was in position to earn his PGA Tour card until running into trouble on the last six holes. He finished with 77—427 in a tie for 57th.
