Man arrested in child sex sting
Police said they arrested a 24-year-old man last week for propositioning sex over the Internet to an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.
The man, of a Makiki address, was released pending further investigation. He is the second person arrested under a new state law that prohibits using the Internet to target children for sexual activity.
Police Capt. Kevin Lima of the Honolulu Police Department Narcotics/Vice Division said an undercover officer posing as a girl on Dec. 4 was propositioned by the suspect in an Internet chatroom.
The man asked the "girl" to meet him around 11 p.m. in McCully for sex, police said. Police met the man there and arrested him for electronic enticement of a minor.
Lima said said the undercover officer wasn't trying to entice the man online.
Lima said the man's personal computer was confiscated. If convicted, the man could face a maximum ten years in prison.
