Advertiser Staff

Funeral services for Grant Yoshiki Hirohata-Goto, the 33-year-old 'Aiea man who died Sunday morning after collapsing at the finish line of the Honolulu Marathon, will be held 6 p.m. Monday at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin.

Hirohata-Goto, who was born in Honolulu and graduated from Iolani, died Sunday morning at The Queen's Medical Center after failing to respond to life-support measures at the marathon medical tent.

He collapsed at the finish line at around 10 a.m. after completing the marathon in a time of 4:57.

Hirohata-Goto's wife, social worker Melissa Mei Hirohata-Goto, yesterday praised the man who she said "was always there for me."

Everyone who knew him knew that "he was a hard worker, so dedicated to his job," she said. "He loved his job, and everything he did, he did 100 percent and more. When he did something he put all his effort into it."

Hirohata-Goto was a commercial real estate research analyst for Stellmacher & Sadoyama.

The family is still awaiting results of an autopsy.

In addition to his wife, Hirohata-Goto is survived by his father, Norman; mother, Amy; brother, Gregg; and sister, Gayle.

Visitation is 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Honpa Hongwanji.

The family requests aloha attire, and no flowers.

There will be parking available at Honpa Hongwanji at 1727 Pali Highway, at the Hongwanji Mission School across Pali Highway, and at Kawananakoa School nearby.
